The Jesters Rod

Item Type: Rod

Magical Properties:

Jester’s Laughter: When the wielder of this rod casts a spell that causes damage, they can choose to activate the Jester’s Laughter ability. When activated, the spell’s damage type changes to force, and all creatures within a 10-foot radius of the spell’s target must make a Wisdom saving throw (DC 15) or be knocked prone from uncontrollable laughter. On a successful save, they are not affected by the laughter. This ability can be used once per long rest.

Jester’s Tricks: The wielder of the rod gains proficiency in the Performance skill if they do not already have it. Additionally, once per short rest, the wielder can use an action to perform a jester’s trick. This can be anything from a simple juggling act to a grandiose display of acrobatics. All creatures within 30 feet of the wielder must make a Wisdom saving throw (DC 15) or become charmed by the wielder for 1 minute. The wielder can choose to end the effect early by taking any hostile action against a charmed creature, which then gains advantage on the saving throw against this ability for 24 hours.

Jester’s Illusion: The wielder of the rod can use an action to create an illusion of a colourful jester that lasts for 1 hour. The illusion can move and interact with objects and creatures, but it cannot deal damage or cause harm. The illusionary jester can entertain and distract creatures, granting the wielder advantage on any Charisma checks made while the illusion is present.

Jester’s Curse: Once per long rest, the wielder can use an action to curse a single creature within 30 feet. The target must make a Wisdom saving throw (DC 15) or be cursed with bad luck for 1 hour. While cursed, the target has disadvantage on all attack rolls, ability checks, and saving throws. The wielder can choose to end the effect early by taking any hostile action against the cursed creature, which then gains advantage on the saving throw against this ability for 24 hours.

Material Cost: Crafting the Skull-Topped Colourful Jester’s Rod requires a skull from a jester, which is a rare and valuable material that can only be obtained from a jester who died in service.
